Artist's Description
This is a Gold Speal Spey fly, as tied by the artist. Generally fished using a two handed rod. This was one of the original sixteen flies found described in Knox, A. E. Autumns on the Spey. The original recipe called for bronze mallard flank, a back and breast feather from a heron, and tail feathers from a river spey cock.
This original hand painted on 100% pure silk mounted on canvas. Hand painting on silk allows the colors to pop, a depth in the silk and transparency can be achieved that is most satisfying to me as an artist.
